#ARCAugust

Hey guys! So August is basically already upon us and for the month of August I will be participating in the month-long event called ARC August!

This event is hosted by Octavia, Shelly, and Angie over at Read.Sleep.Repeat! I’ll leave their blog info here: Read.Sleep.Repeat and it’s a challenge where you try to read as many ARCs as you can so you can get ahead for your blog reviews and catch up on books you’re behind on! It’s going to be so much fun! I can’t wait for it to start tomorrow, and it takes place during the whole month of August.

I’m so behind on my ARCs and I have plenty that are going out in the next two months so I’ll have plenty to keep me busy.

My TBR is pretty ambitious since some of these books are sequels to books I haven’t read yet so I have to read those as well as the sequel. I don’t think I have that many but if I do I’ll have to read those as well!

So here are the books I’m hoping to get to:

First book I want to get to is Shimmer and Burn by Mary Taranta. This book YA Fantasy and I’ll be leaving the summary down below. This cover is just so stunning and wow I love it so so much! Hope I enjoy the book as much as the cover.

Summary: To save her sister’s life, Faris must smuggle magic into a plague-ridden neighboring kingdom in this exciting and dangerous start to a brand-new fantasy duology.

Faris grew up fighting to survive in the slums of Brindaigel while caring for her sister, Cadence. But when Cadence is caught trying to flee the kingdom and is sold into slavery, Faris reluctantly agrees to a lucrative scheme to buy her back, inadvertently binding herself to the power-hungry Princess Bryn, who wants to steal her father’s throne.

Now Faris must smuggle stolen magic into neighboring Avinea to incite its prince to alliance—magic that addicts in the war-torn country can sense in her blood and can steal with a touch. She and Bryn turn to a handsome traveling magician, North, who offers protection from Avinea’s many dangers, but he cannot save Faris from Bryn’s cruelty as she leverages Cadence’s freedom to force Faris to do anything—or kill anyone—she asks. Yet Faris is as fierce as Bryn, and even as she finds herself falling for North, she develops schemes of her own.

With the fate of kingdoms at stake, Faris, Bryn, and North maneuver through a dangerous game of magical and political machinations, where lives can be destroyed—or saved—with only a touch.

I also want to get to the book All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis. This book is something that I really think is relevant and important. I’ll leave the summary down below but from what I gathered from the summary, I feel this book will be amazing and I’m excited to see where this book goes. I really hope it will be!

Summary: Speth Jime is anxious to deliver her Last Day speech and celebrate her transition into adulthood. The moment she turns fifteen, Speth must pay for every word she speaks (“Sorry” is a flat ten dollars and a legal admission of guilt), for every nod ($0.99/sec), for every scream ($0.99/sec) and even every gesture of affection. She’s been raised to know the consequences of falling into debt, and can’t begin to imagine the pain of having her eyes shocked for speaking words that she’s unable to afford.

But when Speth’s friend Beecher commits suicide rather than work off his family’s crippling debt, she can’t express her shock and dismay without breaking her Last Day contract and sending her family into Collection. Backed into a corner, Speth finds a loophole: rather than read her speechrather than say anything at allshe closes her mouth and vows never to speak again. Speth’s unexpected defiance of tradition sparks a media frenzy, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps, and threatens to destroy her, her family and the entire city around them.

Up next on my TBR is Hunting Prince Dracula, and also along the lines with that is Stalking Jack the Ripper. I haven’t read it yet so I need to read Stalking Jack the Ripper then dive into Hunting Prince Dracula. Jack the Ripper and Dracula are two characters I really enjoy reading and learning about so when this series came out I knew I needed to read it! I hope I love them like so many people already have! I’ll post the covers for both books below, as well as the Stalking Jack the Ripper summary.

Summary: Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

Release date (Hunting Prince Dracula): September 19th, 2017

And I’ll also be reading Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust which I’ve heard is a feminist Snow White retelling and I’m so down for that! I’m just so down to read this and I honestly have heard much about it which is weird but I will be diving into it soon I hope! The cover is stunning though let’s be honest!

Summary: At sixteen, Mina’s mother is dead, her magician father is vicious, and her silent heart has never beat with love for anyone—has never beat at all, in fact, but she’d always thought that fact normal. She never guessed that her father cut out her heart and replaced it with one of glass. When she moves to Whitespring Castle and sees its king for the first time, Mina forms a plan: win the king’s heart with her beauty, become queen, and finally know love. The only catch is that she’ll have to become a stepmother.

Fifteen-year-old Lynet looks just like her late mother, and one day she discovers why: a magician created her out of snow in the dead queen’s image, at her father’s order. But despite being the dead queen made flesh, Lynet would rather be like her fierce and regal stepmother, Mina. She gets her wish when her father makes Lynet queen of the southern territories, displacing Mina. Now Mina is starting to look at Lynet with something like hatred, and Lynet must decide what to do—and who to be—to win back the only mother she’s ever known…or else defeat her once and for all.

Entwining the stories of both Lynet and Mina in the past and present, Girls Made of Snow and Glass traces the relationship of two young women doomed to be rivals from the start. Only one can win all, while the other must lose everything—unless both can find a way to reshape themselves and their story.

So I also really want to get to some of my eARCs off Netgalley so I’ll be listing a few that I’ll be working hard to get to.

First up is When I Cast Your Shadow by Sarah Porter. I haven’t read her other book Vassa in the Night which is a fairy tale retelling, and I think this book is a paranormal series I believe. It sounds super good and creepy; and I can’t wait to try out her writing and see what I think!

Summary: After her troubled older brother, Dashiell, dies of an overdose, sixteen-year-old Ruby is overcome by grief and longing. What she doesn’t know is that Dashiell’s ghost is using her nightly dreams of him as a way to possess her body and to persuade her twin brother, Everett, to submit to possession as well.

Dashiell tells Everett that he’s returned from the Land of the Dead to tie up loose ends, but he’s actually on the run from forces crueler and more powerful than anything the Bohnacker twins have ever imagined….

I also really want and need to read Zero Repeat Forever by G. S. Prendergast which I believe is a fantasy novel?? Maybe Sci-fi. I’ve heard it’s like the 5th Wave, but I wouldn’t know since I haven’t read The 5th Wave so….But the cover looks so cool and I really want to get to this book this coming month and see how I enjoy it!

Summary: He has no voice, or name, only a rank, Eighth. He doesn’t know the details of the mission, only the directives that hum in his mind.

Dart the humans. Leave them where they fall.

His job is to protect his Offside. Let her do the shooting.

Until a human kills her…

Sixteen year-old Raven is at summer camp when the terrifying armored Nahx invade, annihilating entire cities, taking control of the Earth. Isolated in the wilderness, Raven and her friends have only a fragment of instruction from the human resistance.

Shelter in place.

Which seems like good advice at first. Stay put. Await rescue. Raven doesn’t like feeling helpless but what choice does she have?

Then a Nahx kills her boyfriend.

Thrown together in a violent, unfamiliar world, Eighth and Raven should feel only hate and fear. But when Raven is injured, and Eighth deserts his unit, their survival comes to depend on trusting each other…

I know the next couple of books coming up are pretty ambitious to include them in this TBR but I will try my hardest to get to them! I’m being overly ambitious but I don’t care!

  1. Amber Sky by Claire Warner and this came out in June so I’m behind on this but I still want to read this anyways.
    1. Summary: Beneath the Amber Sky, the nobility control the food, education, and the mysterious C.O.I.L.S of Copper and Brass. To Tay, struggling to keep her siblings alive, the ideas of rebellion and freedom are distant and unreachable.

But when her father is arrested, she begs Darius James, the son of the Overseer, to save his life. Darius agrees, but his help costs her a favour, one he can call in at any time.

Darius’ favour will bring her to the Palace, and the perfect position to help the growing rebellion. But the court has games beyond anything she has seen before, and Darius’ secrets will add to the danger.

Tay is now able to make a difference, to join the rebellion, find the C.O.I.L.S and discover the secrets of the Amber Sky. All she has to do is survive.

    2. Release Date: June 23rd, 2017
  2. Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller. I got a physical arc but also an eARC off Netgalley so I really need to get on this badly because I’ve heard really good things about it!
    1. Summary: Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home.

When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen’s personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge.

But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.

    2. Release date: August 29th 2017
  3. House of Chaos by Sarai Henderson is the last book I want to try and get into. I got this off Netgalley and it was honestly a cover request. The cover drew me in and I decided to request it and see if I would get it. So I hope to get to this as well but I’m not holding my breath for that…
    1. Summary: Sixteen years ago, Tabri showed up in the mountains an orphaned child with the magic of the Chaotics running through her veins. She survived the bitter winter, the wrath of a yeti, and mutinied on the flying pirate ship Stallings, but then the Madnesi came.

Nell’s Furyon bloodline and elemental magic make her the perfect warrior. Perfect to revenge her sister’s death at the hand of a Madnesi Lord, to defend the Chaotic until her magic fully emerges and to defeat the masses of rotting undead who threaten the survival of the Wilders. If only there was more time in the day.

The Earth Stone has given the two companions a path to safety, but Tabri’s magic is on the fritz and Nell has completely lost her mind with grief. Can they hold it together long enough to allow Chaos to shine a light in the darkness, or will the Madnesi destroy all magic in the world along with the prophecy?

    2. Release Date: September 13th, 2017

Paintbrush by Hannah Bucchin

Publisher: Blaze Publishing LLC

Published: July 11, 2017

Rating: 5/5

Summary: Mitchell Morrison and Josie Sedgwick have spent their whole lives at the Indian Paintbrush Community Village, a commune full of colorful characters tucked in the mountains of North Carolina, and they aren’t particularly close–at least, not anymore. Josie wishes she could spend all of her time at Paintbrush planting tomatoes, hiking the trails, or throwing giant communal birthday parties, while Mitchell can’t wait to escape the bizarre spiritual sharing and noisy community dinners. Luckily for both of them, high school graduation is just around the corner.

But when Mitchell’s mother makes a scandalous announcement that rocks the close-knit Paintbrush community, and Josie’s younger sister starts to make some dangerously bad decisions, the two find themselves leaning on each other for support – and looking at each other in a whole new light. Their childhood friendship blossoms in to something more as they deal with their insane families, but as graduation approaches, so does life in the real world, forcing Josie and Mitchell to figure out what, exactly, their relationship is – and if it can survive their very different plans for the future.

So as mentioned above I love this book. It’s so good and you can really relate to the characters. It’s a dual perspective novel told from Mitchell and Josie’s perspectives. You follow them as their senior year draws to a close and they both are dealing with personal things and personal decisions involving college and their life going forward.

Josie is fine staying at home with her family, and as the story goes on she starts to question her decision on why she really wants to stay there and what she wants to do with her life as a high school graduate.

Mitchell just wants to leave home and go out in the world as soon as his diploma hits his hand.

As he and Josie start to get closer to graduation, things start to develop between them and we watch their relationship grow and they try to figure out how their going to continue this relationship when they have different things in mind for their futures.

Their relationship was something I really enjoyed reading about because it just seemed so real between them and they had realistic problems and it’s something many couples who read this can relate to. I think I relate to Josie the most (and not just because I’m a girl and so is she); mainly because she and I had similar fears once the end of high school came upon us. We were both unsure what we wanted to do and it scared us to even think about leaving home and what is in store for us.

Bucchin really did write such a relatable story and wrote such great characters who had flaws, doubts, and had such a beautiful friendship. I loved reading about their relationship both as friends and as a couple.

Paintbrush, the town in the novel, is such a fun place too! I liked reading about the community they lived in, and we got such a good glimpse into their lives.

Also Michell’s friendship with his best friend Cord is so cute and fun! Cord is one of my all time favorite characters I’ve read this year! He was so supportive of Mitchell’s relationship, was there for him during the hardest part of his life when his mom dropped a bomb on him and his father. He was just a nice, supportive best friend and it’s something you really don’t read much about. They were so different, but they really clicked!

Overall I loved this book, it was just a fantastic debut novel from an author who I will definitely be keeping an eye on in the future! Highly recommend this book and I hope you will give it a try!

Let me know in the comments your thoughts on this novel and if you’ve read it as I would love to know!

Thriftbooks Haul Part 2

So hopefully this book haul is the last for a few weeks since I’m trying to control my spending and get my savings back up since I just got back from Comic Con on Sunday so I need to get my savings account back up since it took a huge hit for paying for the hotel.

I highly doubt I’ll hold back for a few weeks but I’m trying to be optimistic here!

Anyways lets get to the books!

The first I got is Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L Armentrout which is a thriller she wrote and I’ve heard really good things about it so I figured I would get it on thrift books and check it out! I love books about mystery and secrets! It sounds really good!

Summary: Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all – popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the truth about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory – someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

I also got Forever with You by the same author and this is part of her Wait for You series so I won’t be leaving the summary for this book but I hope to get to this series soon since I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series! I want to finish this series before the year is over so let’s hope I get to it soon!

I also got Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery in this beautiful edition! It’s so pretty and I was so happy I saw this on Thriftbooks! I have never read Anne of Green Gables before but I know it’s a childhood classic for many people and so I decided to one day pick it up and reading it! I don’t think I need to leave a summary but I will anyways incase some of you aren’t familiar with this story.

Summary: Everyone’s favorite redhead, the spunky Anne Shirley, begins her adventures at Green Gables, a farm outside Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. When the freckled girl realizes that the elderly Cuthberts wanted to adopt a boy instead, she begins to try to win them and, consequently, the reader, over.

I actually didn’t get this next book from Thriftbooks but I got it at the Amazon bookstore a few towns over but I figured I would include it in this haul. It’s The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski. Wow what a name!

I think this is a video game book or something I’m honestly not sure but I saw someone recommending the series on their instagram and it really interested me so I found the first book at the Amazon bookstore and just decided to check it out! I guess I’ll let you know what I think about it later on!

Summary: Geralt of Rivia is a witcher. A cunning sorcerer. A merciless assassin.

And a cold-blooded killer.

His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world.

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good. . . and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

The international hit that inspired the video game: The Witcher.

I then got Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati which has been pitched to me as a book similar to Outlander. It’s another big series that takes place in America I believe. I’ll leave the summary below but I heard April mention that she was recommended it and I decided to just pick it up since it was so cheap on Thriftbooks.

The summary makes it sound so good so I decided to dive into it soon! I think it’s a bit older but I’ll still leave a review about it.

It’s actually kind of out of my comfort zone so I hope it allows me to push out of my boundaries and try new books!

Summary: Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati’s epic novel sweeps us into another time and place…and into the heart of a forbidden affair between an unconventional Englishwoman and an American frontiersman.

It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered – a white man dressed like a Native American, Nathanial Booner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village, she soons finds herself locked in conflict with the local slave owners as well as her own family.
Interweaving the fate of the Mohawk Nation with the destiny of two lovers, Sara Donati’s compelling novel creates a complex, profound, passionate portrait of an emerging America.

I also got Toxic by Kim Karr which I heard from Jessica on Booktube but the funny thing is that I don’t really remember what it’s about anymore…my memory is really bad so I forget to check the summary all the time. I think it’s about a girl trying to save her family business. Something like that! I’ve never read a book by her so lets hope I end up enjoying the book!

Summary: He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not…

New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr turns up the heat in a smoking hot, emotionally compelling new novel that takes you into the world of Manhattan’s elite.

In Toxic, Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, sometimes brooding entrepreneur goes after what he wants—the woman he left behind years ago. Phoebe St. Claire, a put together, in control socialite-turned-CEO has been drifting through life searching for something she thought she’d never find again—the right man to share her future.

Our passion was boundless. Our lust untamed. And our desire endless. He was the only man who ever made me feel alive. Then, I betrayed him.

When he reappeared, I didn’t question it. Trust rarely survives the wrecking ball, so when he let me in back in—I didn’t hesitate.

Maybe I should have.

What began as a bid to save my family business, turned into a second chance at love. It felt so romantic. Working together, side by side, with the man I loved. My dream come true.

Nothing is as good as it seems.

We had our issues, but then again, every couple does. It wasn’t jealousy, or our too-hot sex life that I should have been worried about.

It was his darkside.

I never saw the end coming, until it slammed me in the face. The question is—did he?

Was revenge his plan all along?
****
Sometimes you have to wonder if your life is too good to be true.
Is it real or just an illusion?
Does the man lying beside you really love you like he says he does?
If the answer is yes, you’re meant to live happily ever after.
If the answer is no, you’re living my life, and nothing will ever be the same.

What you do about it—that’s up to you.

Me, I’m in too deep and there’s no getting out.

I’ll take whatever I can get for as long as I can because I know when it’s over…

I’ll never find another man like him.

Ever!

I finally got the first book in the Mastered series by Lorelei James. I have like the third and fourth so now I just need to get the second book! I loved her Need You series and I can’t wait for the fourth book to come out, but I also really want to read this series! I will eventually pick up her Cowboy series which sounds super good! She’s definitely becoming a auto buy author for romance for me! Highly recommend her series!

Summary: Former small-town girl Amery Hardwick is living her dream as a graphic designer in Denver, Colorado. She’s focused on building her business, which leaves little time for dating—not that she needs a romantic entanglement to fulfill her. When her friend signs up for a self-defense class as part of her recovery after an attack, Amery joins her for support. That’s where she meets him.

Ronin Black, owner of the dojo, is so drawn to Amery that he takes over her training—in public and in private. The enigmatic Ronin pushes Amery’s boundaries from the start, and with each new tryst, Amery becomes addicted to the pleasure and to him. But when Amery senses Ronin is hiding something, she questions her total trust in him, despite the undeniable thrill of his possession….

Last book for this haul is All Lined Up by Cora Carmack! I have her other book in this series, which is the Rusk University series. I believe this is the first, and now I have the first two so I can start reading this series. I have her Losing It series so I need to finish that series as well. I’ve read the first book and loved it so I can’t wait to get into the other books!

Summary: Dallas Cole loathes football. That’s what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It’s obliterated.

Dallas doesn’t know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn’t know that Dallas is his new coach’s daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

And that is my newest thrift books haul! I hope you enjoyed it and let me know in the comments if you’ve read these books and your thoughts and what you hope to get this month as I would love to know!

Hope Flames

Hope Flames

Hope Flames by Jaci Burton

Publisher: Berkley

Published: Janurary 7th, 2017

Rating: 4/5

Summary: Thirty-two and finally setting up her veterinary practice in the town she once called home, Emma Burnett is on her own and loving it. Independent and driven, she’s not letting any man get in the way of her dreams. Not again.

That’s fine with Luke McCormack. Divorced and hardly lacking in female company when he needs it, he’s devoted to the only faithful companion in his life–his police dog. Still, there’s something about Emma he can’t shake.

When a series of local break-ins leaves Emma vulnerable, she seeks help from the first man to spark her desire in years. And now they’re giving each other something they thought they’d lost forever…hope

So this is my first Jaci Burton book that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! It was a small town romance which I really enjoyed since I don’t always read them. As mentioned above it’s a romance between Luke and Emma and it was just adorable and so worth the read!

You’re introduced to Emma who is a vet and she has a dark past she refuses to talk about at first, and Luke who is a cop who would rather have one night stands rather than a long term relationship because of his past. When they meet, their chemistry is very much present and it causes them both to question their commitment to avoid relationships.

They both start spending time with each other and start learning about each other and soon start to open up about their pasts to each other.

I really enjoyed these two characters. Emma was really sweet and kind. She was just a genuinely good person and usually tried to do what she could to help others, especially with her patients. She ended up being a favorite character of mine both in this genre, but also this story, and I liked reading her perspective.

Luke was also a really good guy and a decent person. He may have preferred one night stands to relationships, but he never had nasty thoughts or was nasty to other women he knew in town. That really made him unique to me and stand out as a good character, He never pressured Emma for anything, and never made her feel like she was pressured to do anything she didn’t want to do.

Overall this book was a great start to a romance series I plan on continuing in the future! If you love small town romances I high recommend this series for you, and if you love a cute romance novel, this is also a really good romance for you.

Plus it has dogs which I love so much!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this series or this author/book and your thoughts as I would love to know!

Another Small Barnes and Nobles Haul

So I went to Barnes and Nobles after an appointment and I just….got a couple books. As you do at Barnes and Nobles and have no self control! Hope you’re not tired of seeing these!

Anyways I got The Alchemist of Loom by Elise Kova! I’ve been wanting to read this book since Reagan and Sasha talked about it on their channels on Youtube! The cover looks so cool and I hope it’s as good as I’ve been hearing!

Summary: Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom

I also got Ravage by Tillie Cole! I got the bind up for the first two in the series called Savage Souls I believe so I’ll be reading that soon and diving into this one. Her books sound so deep and angsty so I can’t wait to try them out! Hope they’re as amazing as I’ve heard!

I also got Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren! They are one of my all time favorite romance authors and so every book they publish I have to buy it! I’ve heard really great things about this book so I know I’ll enjoy it when I read it this week for the Booktubeathon! I’ll be sure to post a review when I read it!

Summary: Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you will get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, raucous, and hilarious romance style at its finest.

So if you don’t know, I love reading new adult and adult romances! It’s one of my favorite genres ever. But I sometimes get tired of reading companion series and I always want to look for romance series that follow the same main characters during the entire story.

Which is why the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day is probably my all time favorite romance series! So I was super excited to find out that The Hacker series follows the same characters throughout the entire series! So I decided to pick up the first two books and I hope that I get the chance to just binge read it! I honestly haven’t heard that much about it but I really hope I enjoy it.

Summary: Determined to overcome a difficult past, Erica Hathaway learns early on how to make it on her own. Days after her college graduation she finds herself face to face with a panel of investors who will make or break her fledgling startup. The only thing she didn’t prepare for was going weak in the knees over an arrogant and gorgeous investor who’s seemingly determined to derail her presentation.

Billionaire and rumored hacker Blake Landon has already made his fortune in software, and he’s used to getting what he wants with very little resistance. Captivated by Erica’s drive and unassuming beauty, he’s wanted nothing more since she stepped into his boardroom. Determined to win her over, he breaks down her defenses and fights for her trust, even if that means sacrificing a level of control he’s grown accustomed to.

But when Blake uncovers a dark secret from Erica’s past, he threatens not just her trust, but the life she’s fought so hard to create.

So let me know in the comments what you’ve gotten recently and stay tuned for other books I have in my second thriftbooks haul that is coming up soon as well as some reviews and other posts!

2017 Booktubeathon

Hello!

The Booktubeathon is slowly coming upon us and I never participated in it but I decided to try and do it this year! I love readathons because they really help me get through books quickly and some of the challenges are so fun!

It currently is July 24th- July 30th

So for those that don’t know the Booktubeathon is where book tube comes together and reads books and makes videos! I don’t do the video part since I don’t have a YouTube channel so I just do the challenges focussed on reading! I’ll leave the challenges down below!

Challenges:
1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.
2/ Read a hyped book.
3/ Finish a book in one day.
4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.
5/ Finish a book completely outdoors.
6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.
7/ Read seven books.

So I don’t know if I can get to all of the challenges and I might try and combine so my TBR might change but here is my tentative TBR for this readathon.

Challenge 1: Read a book with a person on the cover.

I want to read Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren! I have read almost all of Christina Lauren’s books, and I always enjoy them so much so since this is their newest release I figured I’d get it read since I’m so excited for it!

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off.

Challenge 2: Read a hyped book

I think for this challenge I’m going to be reading Winterson by S. Jae Jones! I have two different copies of this book and I’ve heard so many good things about it so I hope I can get to it since I’ve been interested in reading it since it came out!

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

Challenge 3: finish a book in one day

So it might be hard for me to do this but I think I’ll be picking a nice cute romance novel to get through in a day since I fly through those so fast since they’re super addicting! I think I’ll be diving into the Hacker series with Hardwired by Meredith Wild! I was super excited when I found out this was a book series with the same characters rather than companion novels. I don’t really mind companion novels but I really love when books are following the same characters! I’ll get more into that when I get my review of this book posted!

Determined to overcome a difficult past, Erica Hathaway learns early on how to make it on her own.

But when Blake uncovers a dark secret from Erica’s past, he threatens not just her trust, but the life she’s fought so hard to create.

Challenge 4: Read about a character that is different from you.

So I’ll be reading the first book in the Castles Ever After series by Tessa Dare! It’s titled Romancing the Duke! THis character is different from me because she is the daughter of a famous author who has never been kissed. Because my mother is a nurse and my dad is a retired marine and I have been kissed before….but yes! I really want to read her books so I did my best to make sure I could read this and make it count to a challenge!

RomancingTheDuke

As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.

And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.

Ugly duckling turned swan?
Abducted by handsome highwayman?
Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?

No, no, and… Heh.

Now Izzy’s given up yearning for romance. She’ll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who’s never even been kissed?

This one

Challenge 5: Read a book completely outdoors.

So it’s super hot outside in California right now so I don’t really want to sit outside and read for like 6 hours so I’ll be reading Alex + Ada Vol. 2! It’s a graphic novel about a guy and an android! I read the first book and loved it so I got the second one and I still haven’t read it so I figured I would during this readathon!

Alex-Ada-V2

Challenge 6: Read a book you bought because of the cover.

So for this challenge I’ll be reading Chasing Spring by R. S. Grey! I haven’t read a book by her yet but I bought this book recently because the cover is just stunning! I just think it’s gorgeous and I’ve heard it’s really good so of course I had to get it! I’ll update you all on my thoughts!

I thought I’d left Blackwater, Texas behind for good. I didn’t belong in the small town, but my dad wouldn’t listen. He dragged me back home in his beat-up truck and dropped a bomb along the way: Chase Matthews was moving in with us. He was the golden boy of my high school, my former best friend, and the last person I wanted sleeping across the hall. His presence was too great a reminder of the ghosts I was trying to forget.

I didn’t ask for a hero. I don’t want to be saved.

To me, Lilah Calloway meant late nights sneakin’; out, moonlit hair, and sparklers in July. She was my best friend until the day she left and I’d assumed Blackwater had seen the last of her. Then, like a tempest, she rolled back into town for the final half of senior year. The chopped hair and dark devil-may-care attitude warned most people away, but I knew if I fought hard enough, I could find the lost girl.

I didn’t want to be her hero. Some girls don’t need to be saved.

Challenge 7: Read 7 books

I’m not going to be picking a book to read for this one because I really just want to read whatever I’m in the mood for at that time to finish up this challenge!

And that is my TBR for this readathon! Make sure to check out twitter and see what’s going on! Just type in booktubeathon2017 and you’ll be able to see everything people are reading and other things going on for the booktubeathon! Let me know in the comments if you plan on joining this readathon and what you want to read for it!

Thriftbook Haul

Yes…I have another haul…I couldn’t help myself! And I have another haul since I got a 5 dollar coupon with this order so I used it on that order. I really told myself I wasn’t going to buy many books but again I just couldn’t help it.

So I’ll just get on with the books!

So I got sweet ache since recently I got a few of the books in the series so I really wanted to get this to complete the series! Summary will be off Goodreads as usual but I can’t wait to dive into this because it sounds so good!

Summary: Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screw-up could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.

Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.

Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage…

Up next is Fall with Me by Jennifer L Armentrout! I have read a bunch of her books and I’ve loved them so I really want to read her new adult books! I have a couple books from this series so I think once I get all of them I’ll binge read it! I think its all the same series so I won’t be posting the summary incase it spoils anything!

I also got The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory! I’ve been wanting to read her Tudor series or I think it’s called The Cousin’s War series and this is the first book in that series so rather than reading them out of order I decided to read them in order and hope I like it!

Summary: Jacquetta, daughter of the Count of Luxembourg and kinswoman to half the royalty of Europe, was married to the great Englishman John, Duke of Bedford, uncle to Henry VI. Widowed at the age of 19, she took the extraordinary risk of marrying a gentleman of her household for love, and then carved out a new life for herself.

I also got Addicted by Elle Kennedy which is the second book in the outlaws series! I have  the first book but I feel like I’ll really like this series so I got the second book so I could maybe binge the series if I really like it!

I also got Screwdrivered by Alice Clayton! I have Wallbanger by her and I order another book in this series by her as well so I hope I can get them all and binge it! I’ve heard good things about her book so I can’t wait to dive in and see if I like it like everyone else does! I won’t be leaving the summary because I’m not sure it follows different characters or not.

I also got Forever by Maggie Stiefvater in the UK cover and I’m so happy Thriftbooks and this so I could match the other two! I love these covers so much more than the US covers so I’m happy to have them on my shelves! I’ve never read this series but I’ve read her Raven Cycle series and love them so I hope I feel that way about these!

I got Dictatorship of the Dress by Jessica Topper which I heard about on Goodreads and thought it sounded so good and super cute! I cannot wait to dive into it and I hope I get the chance to soon!

Summary: As the dress-bearer for her mother’s wedding, comic book artist Laney Hudson has a lot more baggage than the bulky garment bag she’s lugging from New York to Hawaii. Laney is determined to prove she’s capable of doing something right, but running chores for her mom’s fairytale nuptials is proving to be a painfully constant reminder of her own lost love.

So when she’s mistaken for the bride and bumped up to first class, Laney figures some stress-free luxury is worth a harmless white lie. Until the flight crew thinks that the man sitting next to her is Laney’s groom, and her little fib turns into a hot mess.

The last thing Noah Ridgewood needs is some dress-obsessed diva landing in his first-class row. En route to his Vegas bachelor party, the straight-laced software designer knows his cold feet have nothing to do with the winter weather.

When a severe storm leaves them grounded in Chicago and they find themselves booked into the last available honeymoon suite, Laney and her in-flight neighbor have little choice but to get better acquainted. Now, as her bridal mission hangs in the balance, perhaps the thing Laney gets right is a second chance at love.

Up next is the first in a series about hit men! It’s Last Hit by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick! I’ve never read a book about a hit man so I really hope I like it and that it lives up to what I’ve heard about this series!

Summary: Nikolai

I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all bespoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you’d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy

I’ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Home-schooled and farm-raised, I’m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best in people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he’s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man that has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk… and also, my life.

Lastly for this haul is Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott which is a book I heard from someone on Booktube and it sounded interesting since it’s a romance or something between a teacher and a student. I have mixed feelings about relationships like that but I can’t help but want to read about it!

Summary: Charlie, a senior, isn’t looking forward to her last year of high school. Another year of living in the shadow of her best friend, Lila. Another year of hiding behind the covers of her favorite novels. Another year of navigating her tense relationship with her perfectionist mom.

But everything changes when she meets her new English teacher. Mr. Drummond is smart. Irreverent. Funny. Hot. Everyone loves him. And Charlie thinks he’s the only one who gets her.

She also thinks she might not be the only one with a crush.

And that is my recent Thriftbooks haul! I have others coming in the mail from another Thriftbooks order so stay tuned for that post as well!

What books did you recently get? Let me know in the comments because I would love to know!

Summary: Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

Oh my gosh this book was so steamy and swoonworthy! I loved it so much! Georgia and Leo were the sweetest high school couple until something horrible happened to Georgia and that caused the relationship to spiral downward. This ultimately lead to their breakup. I loved reading about their relationship as young teenagers, and their relationship now!

It was also interesting to read about her father’s issues with Leo, and how that really affects Leo and his relationship on the team. Her father really doesn’t like him and you see why and see how things get twisted around, sometimes by no fault of their own.

Georgia really tries to hold Leo back at arms length even though it’s obvious that she really does still have feelings for him, and him her. Now that he plays for the team that she works with, they’re thrown together all the time and it’s starting to weigh on them both! I really did adore Georgia and her friendship with her friend Becca was so cute and supportive and I just really enjoyed that dynamic! Especially since Becca was all down for Georgia and Leo to really work things out and find out where they went wrong years before.

It was so cute because Leo and her had such great chemistry, but also they were such good friends with each other. Leo as a young guy was perfect to Georgia and it was refreshing seeing a guy who really wasn’t a player with girls, but a decent guy.

Plus as an adult he was some sexy hunk of a man!

And a hockey player!

Love my sports men! I can’t help it! They’re just great!

But Leo was a great guy, even as an adult he was concerned with pushing her too much after what happened to her in the past, and sticking up for her with this teammates.

He was also super funny!

“‘Wait.’ His long arms reached for her hips. ‘I need to say goodbye to the tatas.’”

Also:

“Leo: so your room then?

Georgia: nope.

Leo: but I need a word with the tatas. There’s something I forgot to say”

Omg I love him! He’s hilarious! And I love that little tradition or quirk of his! So cute!

If you love sports romance, romance in general, or are just looking for a cute novel to read I highly suggest reading this book! You’ll fall in love just like me! I definitely will be reading the rest of the books in the series since I really just loved this author’s writing! Highly recommend this book!

Let me know in the comments your thoughts on this book and if you’ve read it and the rest of the books in the series as I would love to know!

Book Club?

So I’ve been thinking about starting a bookclub on my blog.

But I want it to be a book club where we read classics (both older and modern classics), mainly to encourage people to give them a chance outside of reading them for classes. I have a small collection of classics published by Vintage and I want to read them but I am nervous to start them.

Classics are really out of my comfort zone since I read them for class and didn’t really enjoy myself.

But I want to give it another chance and try to read them! I mainly got the idea from April from Aprilius Maximus on Booktube since she really got into reading classics and likes to talk to them when she reads them.

I dont know..is it coming a few of you would want to be apart of? I would post a poll on my Twitter and you all would vote and we would then read that book during the month and then talk about it (meaning I would post discussion stuff and put my thoughts and you would answer if you felt like it in the comments).

I kind of want to do this so let me know if that’s something that interests you!

Vengeance Road

Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

Summary: Revenge is worth its weight in gold.

When her father is murdered for a journal revealing the location of a hidden gold mine, eighteen-year-old Kate Thompson disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers—and justice. What she finds are untrustworthy strangers, endless dust and heat, and a surprising band of allies, among them a young Apache girl and a pair of stubborn brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, a startling truth becomes clear: some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.

I thought this book was so fun! It was a really fun adventure story of a girl trying to get her revenge on the Rose Riders who are a western gang, who she finds out killed her father. I never really read books set in a Western time period but I really did enjoy this book and I thought really did love the journey they went on together! As you can tell, journey stories are my favorite because I really feel like I went on that journey with them and had my own adventure!

I thought it was funny that she stuck with her disguise as a boy for a while, and it was really shocking for the boys when they found out she was a girl! I love that trope because when it’s revealed they suddenly have a new view of the girl! Will and Jesse were definitely shocked!

Speaking of the boys, I thought they were great characters! Jesse was the brooding brother, while Will was the funny brother! They had a horrible past having to do with family issues, but I really think that added so much depth to them as people and Jesse was such a cute brooding guy!

Kate was just fantastic! She was determined, capable and definitely a hero! She didn’t cower behind anybody and took matters into her own hands. She definitely wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself, and help people who needed it. Her story with Lil was proof of that.

But wow were there so many twists! I really didn’t expect what happened and I was just blown away! You think you kind of figure out how things are going to happen and then suddenly they go in the completely opposite direction! Added so much shock and suspense that I really did enjoy! You meet a person that you didn’t expect to meet and the way that person came about what intense! Such a mind boggling situation! I loved it! I love when books do that! They take the floor out from under you and suddenly things are different! Cannot wait to see what twists she brings about in the companion book!

I highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy Western settings and books that involve adventure and journeys! The writing is fantastic and the dialogue is really easy to understand especially since they had some of the western slang and speech! Definitely put this book in your TBR!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this book and your thoughts as I would love to know!
