Sorry I haven’t been posting much! I’m really trying to do my best to get it together but I’ve been so busy lately with school! I’m really working hard on trying to get a lot of posts up!

Anyways…

So this book totally blew me away! I was kinda skeptical going into this book because I’ve heard that it really kind of drags at some parts, and I never felt that while reading this at all! I was hooked from page 1 and I really thought it had so many twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting!

You’re introduced to three young girls, who are queens in their territories and each has a specific power their area is known for. Katharine the poisoner, who is struggling to reach her potential, Arsinoe the naturalist, who’s powers haven’t come in yet, and then Mariabella, who is a very powerful elementatist.

When reading this, you really feel bad for Katharine, who is only looking for approval form her house, and is sadly disappointing them at every turn. She was such a sweet girl and I really liked her and her story line. Her relationship with Pietyr was so cute and gah I can’t spoil anything but that twist in her storyline just! Wow! I didn’t expect that at all. I thought I had figured out what the ulterior motive was, but man I was so so wrong! Now that I’m reading One Dark Throne I think I have something figured out but knowing my luck I’ll be all wrong! Again!

Arsinoe is another interesting character, mainly because she’s a naturalist who’s power hasn’t shown up yet.  You follow her and her struggle to get her power, and find alternative ways to get what she wants. I think I liked her least to be honest, because she was so impulsive, and so willing to do reckless things to show her worth or make herself look better. They always have a way of backfiring as well. Especially towards the end…that was bad…

And with Mirabella, I really did like her. She had a good heart and was trying her best to really get out of the situation. She might have made some bad choices, but in her defense, those choices were a bit out of her control and she didn’t know it would end up being that way. I know I’m being very vague, so definitely read it and you’ll see what I mean! But I really loved her power and I honestly think that power is something I would want to have if I had magic. She is definitely the strongest out of the sisters.

Also Joseph needs to get ahold of himself.

But that ending! Wow oh wow! I honestly can’t wait to see how everything turns out in the series because the way it ended, things were going crazy with so many different twists and turns! This book was just a fun ride and I really liked it a lot! It’s my first Kendare Blake book and I definitely will be trying to check her books out more in the future!
