Remember December

Hey everyone! I can’t believe that November is already over and December is coming up! I have the theme for this month and its Remember December! So basically it has two parts. I’m going to be rereading a series or two this month in order to catch up or finish the series.

I basically want to reread, so it’ll help me remember the details so I can remember everything that happened and continue with a clear memory.

I’m only going to share one series but I have high hopes that I’ll be able to read more this month to do that.

The one series that I want to reread this month is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I need to finish Empire of Storms and I want to binge read the whole Throne of Glass series and also mark those books with favorite quotes and scenes.

Summary of Throne of Glass: After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

That is the main book series that I want to reread. I think though I’ll plan on another series like the ACOTAR series or The Remnant Chronicles. Not 100% sure yet but I’ll keep you all updated!

Are there any book series that you want to reread for fun or to catch up? Let me know in the comments and join me this month for Remember December!

Cutting Down my TBR

Hey everyone! So I’m here with a post about how I’m cutting out some books from my physical TBR pile.

It’s mainly on the fact that I have so many books to read and I have a few that I’ve had for so many years or so and just don’t want to read them anymore or I have too many and I want to cut down on some of them.

It’s not to say that I don’t want to read most of them.

Because I do!

But some of them I would rather listen to on audiobook or read on my kindle. I’d rather use my bookshelves for books I’m really wanting to read and keep. And I plan to use my kindle for review books and books I want to read but don’t mind reading an ebook of.

I think the main books I’m getting rid of are YA contemporary. I’m obsessed with New Adult and Adult romances but I’m not too crazy about YA contemporary. It’s not to say that I don’t like Young Adult anymore. I do! I just don’t care too much anymore for YA contemporary like I do fantasy and science fiction. There are some I plan on keeping mainly because they are the ones I really want to read, but most of my YA contemporary I plan on getting rid of.

There are a few that I really think I’ll like and I’ll buy in the future but I mainly plan on not buying too many Young Adult contemporary in the future in physical form. I just want to binge my trashy romance books!

Also just seeing how many books I have to read on my shelves is stressing me out and I just want them to be full of books that I know I want to read and that I know I’ll enjoy. I just feel bad that I have so many on there that I might not read at all so I plan to give them to people who will actually pick it up faster than I will.

I think that’s why I love listening to audiobooks. Mainly because it helps me get to those books faster since I have such long drives to work and school every week!

*TBH the main reason I’m getting rid of books I might not get to is because I broke my book buying ban since there were so many book sales going on because of the holidays that I couldn’t help myself and bought a lot of books I really want to read. Need the space for them ya know!!*

I mainly got inspired for this idea by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes on youtube since she cut down on some of her books recently and posted a video about it. It kind of caused me to look around my shelves and see that I had books that I would rather not keep because of the reasons mentioned above.

granted I didn’t get rid of too many since my physical TBR pile is like almost 200 books but it helped narrow it down to books I know I will be reading soon!

I think that I’ll be donating them to my local used bookstore for someone else to buy!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve done something like this before and how it made you feel! I’d love to know! How many books do you have now on your TBR? I believe if I got specific it’d be like 228 books on my TBR. Mainly because I have so many mass market paperbacks in my collection!

Weekly Reads TBR

Hello! So I know this is a day late but I’m still planning on doing a Weekly Reads TBR!

So I don’t have many plans for this week besides going to Disneyland a few times, working, and homework. So I have some chances to read this week!

The first book I plan on reading is Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill. This is my school book so I plan on reading it at school mainly. I’m about 100 pages in so I don’t have too much to read before I’m done! It’s really good so far so I can’t wait to see what happens!

Another one I really want to get to is The Dark Intercept by Julia Keller. It’s from my TBR for this month from Never Read November. I really want to read one or two more from that list but I probably will only get one more done. This one sounds really good so I’m excited to start it!

Last one I really want to read is The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I’m currently reading this one for Tome Topple and I have about 400 pages left so maybe I’ll get a chance to finish it or get almost all of it read this week. That’s my goal…I hope I get to it! *cries*

Tome Topple Progress

So week 1 for Tome Topple is done! And we are making out way to week 2. Or something like that! I know it’s ending soon though!

For those that don’t know, Tome Topple is a readathon created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes where you focus on reading your big books!

My goal was to read The Final Empire and The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson! And I thought that I would update you all on how I’m doing since I haven’t done so yet! So so far I’ve read 220-ish pages of The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. Which is great for me since last time I made it like 59 pages then stopped so I’m glad I’m making more progress this time around.

I really want to finish it this week though so I have to push through those 400 pages this week. Let’s hope I can do this! *cries*

I had hoped to be on the second book by now but that’s obviously not going to happen.

My main goal is to finish this book though at least.

Thriftbooks Book Haul

Hey everyone! I got a few packages in the mail from Thriftbooks, which I know I shouldn’t have bought because I’m trying to lower my book spending. But this time of year is really hard for me to hold back because there are so many coupons and discounts coming out from bookstores and yeah….I can’t hold myself back. So expect more books to come in the mail again soon because no self control.

Anyways here are the books I got recently from Thriftbooks! I might do my Book Off Haul if I remember!

But the first book I got from Thriftbooks is Emily of New Moon by L M Montgomery. I have the first book of the Anne of Green Gables series in this edition and I wanted to get this book to match. I think this cover is so pretty! I haven’t read a book by her but I hope I end up liking them since I went out of my way to find these editions.

Summary: Emily Starr never knew what it was to be lonely — until her beloved father died. Now Emily’s an orphan, and her mother’s snobbish relatives are taking her to live with them at New Moon Farm. She’s sure she won’t be happy. Emily deals with stiff, stern Aunt Elizabeth and her malicious classmates by holding her head high and using her quick wit. Things begin to change when she makes friends: with Teddy, who does marvelous drawings; with Perry, who’s sailed all over the world with his father yet has never been to school; and above all, with Ilse, a tomboy with a blazing temper. Amazingly, Emily finds New Moon beautiful and fascinating. With new friends and adventures, Emily might someday think of herself as Emily of New Moon.

I also got this really cool version of Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. I haven’t read this book but I have heard many people say really good things about it so I found this copy on Thriftbooks and decided to get it. I really hope that I like it since I’ve heard so many good things about it.

Summary: R is having a no-life crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he’d rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization.

And then he meets a girl.

First as his captive, then his reluctant guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl—although she looks delicious—he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can’t imagine, and their hopeless world won’t change without a fight.

I decided to get Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire. I have three of her books and am adding to my collection of her Beautiful series I believe it’s called. I know they’re really angsty books so I hope my heart can handle it. I believe it’s linked with the Beautiful Disaster series that deals with one of the brothers from this set of books. So before I start this series so I might be reading the other series first then this one.

Summary: Fiercely independent Camille “Cami” Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

So I picked up the first two books in the Savage Trilogy by Mia Gabriel. The second one is down below but I hope to get to this soon. I’ve heard this is a really steamy and amazing book so I want to read it soon! Maybe next week or something so I can have a fun read to binge.

Summary: Once trapped in a loveless, pleasure-less marriage, Evelyn Hart leaves her home in New York for the glittering ballrooms of London. However, when she arrives she meets the Earl of Savage, a dark, powerful man who seems to live up to his name, despite his noble trappings, a man who possesses her with just one look. Soon Evelyn finds herself pulled into Savage’s world—a world of passion unlike any she has ever experienced. Evelyn’s heart is captured with no hope of escape. But can they overcome the tortures of the past together?

Savage never imagined someone like Evelyn walking into his life. As soon as he sees her he knows he must have her, no matter the cost.

I also got On My Knees by Meredith Wild, even though I haven’t read her Hacker series yet….But I plan to fix that soon! I hope! Then I can get this series read as well! My goal is to binge read the Hacker series at some point so yeah!

Summary: Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again.

Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.

When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?

I lastly got Savage Nights by Mia Gabriel, the second book with Lord Savage. I again am planning on reading this book next week as well to take a break with a steamy book! I won’t leave the summary since its the second book and I don’t know if this is a companion series yet or not! I don’t want to spoil anything about it.

Anyways that’s my little haul from Thriftbooks! I may post my haul from Book Off but I just have to grab all the books that I got and take pictures of them! Stay tuned for that!

Also stay tuned for a giveaway I’ll be hosting soon!

Let me know in the comments what books you got recently as I would love to know and I’ll see you in my next post!

The City of Brass

city of brass

The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty

Publisher: Harper Voyager

Published: November 14th, 2016

Rating: 2.5/5

Summary: Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trade she uses to get by—palm readings, zars, healings—are all tricks, sleights of hand, learned skills; a means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles.

But when Nahri accidentally summons an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to accept that the magical world she thought only existed in childhood stories is real. For the warrior tells her a new tale: across hot, windswept sands teeming with creatures of fire, and rivers where the mythical marid sleep; past ruins of once-magnificent human metropolises, and mountains where the circling hawks are not what they seem, lies Daevabad, the legendary city of brass–a city to which Nahri is irrevocably bound.

In that city, behind gilded brass walls laced with enchantments, behind the six gates of the six djinn tribes, old resentments are simmering. And when Nahri decides to enter this world, she learns that true power is fierce and brutal. That magic cannot shield her from the dangerous web of court politics. That even the cleverest of schemes can have deadly consequences.

After all, there is a reason they say be careful what you wish for . . .

*THIS REVIEW IS FOR WHATEVER I FINISHED, NOT THE ENTIRE BOOK. WILL POST ANOTHER REVIEW WHENEVER I GET AROUND TO FINISHING THIS*

I’m sad to say that I’m putting this book down for right now. I started this like two weeks ago and I’m barely halfway through. I really want to finish it and I think I will but I just am not in the mood and I don’t want to force myself to read it when I have no interest in reading it right now.

I’ve seen so many good reviews on Goodreads and I really want to like it but right now It’s not engaging me so I think it’s best for me to move on.

But so far here are my thoughts:

I loved that vibe that I was getting, it was similar to The Wrath and the Dawn and Rebel of the Sands. The main character is from Cairo and can magically heal herself. She stumbles along a Djnn after using magic to summon him. I liked their dynamic and loved reading their storyline.

I think what was bothering me was that I didn’t care too much about Ali, the Prince. We read from his POV as well, and I wasn’t as invested in his storyline like I was with Nahri. I mean I understood that he was important but I just didn’t care as much as I did with Nahri.

Dara was awesome and I love him so much though! He was interesting to read about as well. He has so much unrevealed history that I wish was being revealed more quickly that it is.

Overall just not feeling it so I hope I get in the mood one day soon and decide to just jump back in. I’ll be posting another review for this book once I really do finish it so you can all know my full thoughts.

Anyways, let me know your thoughts and if you’ve read or are reading this book! I’d really love to know!
