Summary: The graphic novel debut from rising star Noelle Stevenson, based on her beloved and critically acclaimed web comic, which Slate awarded its Cartoonist Studio Prize, calling it “a deadpan epic.”

Nemeses! Dragons! Science! Symbolism! All these and more await in this brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic from Noelle Stevenson. Featuring an exclusive epilogue not seen in the web comic, along with bonus conceptual sketches and revised pages throughout, this gorgeous full-color graphic novel is perfect for the legions of fans of the web comic and is sure to win Noelle many new ones.

Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are.

But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.

So I thought that I would post about a recent graphic novel that I read and thought was so cute with a really awesome art style.

I heard a lot of really good things about Nimona and I saw it on the shelf at my local library and since I was on a huge graphic novel kick I thought that I would check it out for myself. It was so good! It was really good!

I very much liked the storyline and felt its as really well thought out and developed, the artwork was beautiful, and the characters were super likable and funny! The only downside was that I felt that it was really text heavy, and while the novel was decent sized, it felt longer because I had to take a bit more time reading all the text on each page.

I’ll add a picture here:

This is not a lot on this page but sometimes there was a bit more than this so yeah.

Other than that I thought it as a good graphic novel. The story was cute and I liked how Nimona and Ballister Blackheart got along and developed a cute friendship with each other as the story goes on. He almost acted like a father to her at the end and I thought that was so cute.

Also Blackheart and Goldenloin were OTP. For sure! I loved them! Their relationship was so cute and funny and I wish that we got more of it.

On that note, I felt that the graphic novel ended really abruptly and I wanted more from it. We only saw glimpses of the relationship between Blackheart and Goldenloin since we got a brief look at it before the novel ended. I just wish things were wrapped up more because I felt like that wasn’t done. I was just so invested in it that it saddened me when it ended.

Also I was sad at the ending, and I can’t really go into this part without spoiling anything so once you read the ending you’ll know kind of what I am talking about.

Again I thought it was really funny and entertaining and the plots cute and well executed with what was going on. As mentioned before the artwork was very well done and super sweet and colorful. The color scheme really complimented each other.

Okay I went really in-depth a bit but I enjoyed this graphic novel and I highly recommend that you all check it out, especially if you’re interested in getting into graphic novels. Noelle’s novels are a really good place to start!

Let me know down below what your thoughts are, and what you think of her work as I would really love to know! Have you read anything by her before?? Let me know!
