Currently Reading

Hello all!

I’m here with my Currently Reading post for you all to update you on what I read! So Ive only read two books so far but I have plans to hopefully finish two more! As I said earlier this week my goal is to finish the books I started and didn’t finish last week! I’m doing good so far though I think!

So I read The Last Magician and it was good! I ended up giving it a 4 stars. I wasn’t enjoying it that much before but I did end up enjoying it! I have the ARC of the second book so I hope to start that this weekend as well!

And then I finished Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel which was really interesting! I didn’t feel super connected to the characters but I did like it a lot and felt the characters were super interesting!

So here are what I am currently reading!

I am reading After the End by Natasha Preston still and it’s so good but I don’t want it to end so I haven’t been reading it, but I’ve been holding the iPad like “it’s okay, you can reread it once you’re done if you want!” haha I’m horrible….

and I am also reading Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo! I have been listening to the audiobook and I think I could get it done in a day or two since I’m hooked already!

and lastly I am reading The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren! It’s addicting but I haven’t had a chance to read physical books much with work, taking care of my dog, and homework, and also insurance stuff dealing with my accident, and chores! My goal this weekend is to read this as well!

And my plans are small this weekend for other books but I want to start another audiobook so I think my audiobook I’ll read will be…..

The Woman in the Window! I am like 20 pages into that book so I think I’m going to try and finish it this weekend…or get most of it done this weekend!

and I want to start The Devil’s Thief which is the second book in this series and the sequel to The Last Magician! It’s almost 700 pages so I have to like pace myself when reading it! haha!

and yeah…those are my plans!

What are your reading plans???

Leah on the Offbeat

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

Publisher: HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray

Published: April 24th 2018

Rating: 5-star-rating-clipart-1

Summary: Leah Burke—girl-band drummer, master of deadpan, and Simon Spier’s best friend from the award-winning Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda—takes center stage in this novel of first love and senior-year angst.

When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat—but real life isn’t always so rhythmic. An anomaly in her friend group, she’s the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she’s bisexual, she hasn’t mustered the courage to tell her friends—not even her openly gay BFF, Simon.

So Leah really doesn’t know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high. It’s hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting—especially when she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended.

So, I read Simon a few months ago and then right after Leah on the offbeat came out and so I picked it up. And in Simon, I didn’t really care for Leah that much, I just felt like she rubbed me the wrong way. I think it mainly had to do with her attitude.

I did not like her attitude at all!

It’s weird, because I understand to a certain extent why she is the way she is. But I just felt like the whole book both in Simon and in Leah on the offbeat that she just needed to tone down her attitude a lot. I know I’m going off on a tangent about it but I just can’t help it.

In this book she would get angry at people for the littlest things, and would get angry when they wouldn’t really take her along places but at the same time it seems like she didn’t even want to go. I mean I get it because I kind of feel the same way at times when even though I might not want to go it’s still nice to get an invitation but I just fell at times she kind of blew it out of proportion. I do agree with her and the comments that she made about bisexuality, because it is true. People like to think that because they’re attracted to someone that that automatically makes them bisexual or automatically lets them mess with other peoples feelings. That’s what I felt like one person was doing, I’m not gonna say who but if you read the book you’ll know who I might be talking about. Just for some reason I didn’t like the vibe I would get from this person regarding this romance a relationship. And speaking of romance, this romance wasn’t my favorite and I just felt like it was too convenient and I felt like the feelings were not what they could have been.

I don’t know…I hope that what I said above made sense. Basically I didn’t like a certain character and what I thought felt like the hold she had over someone else and how it was super convenient that she felt a certain way towards someone. I just didn’t agree with that and it didn’t feel real and such. I didn’t believe that.

But I liked Leah and her dynamic with her mother. I appreciated that the author made her mother more present in her life. As someone who’s mother is very much in her life, I love seeing family dynamics between mothers and daughters. They were great with each other, and it was sweet seeing her mother react to her friends and her life choices and everything else. I just thought her mother was amazing and I loved her so much! I felt the same with with Simon and his family. This book has really fantastic family relationships.

Also I liked seeing some people from The Upside of Unrequited being mentioned and such in this one too! I loved that book as well, and I enjoyed seeing them come back into this world.

But Leah and Simon are prolly my favorite interactions besides Leah and her mother. They are great with each other! And I liked seeing Simon and his man form Leah’s eyes. It was so sweet… I loved it.

And it was super sweet and amazing seeing the kids from Simon grow up and make adult decisions about college. And I loved that they followed their heart without all following their significant others.

Overall, I enjoyed this a lot and I will read more from this world. But Simon will always be my favorite book….but if you loved Simon, you will enjoy this book very much! Highly recommend checking it out!

Her Last Word

Her Last Word by Mary Burton

Publisher: Montlake Romance

Published: May 8th 2018

Rating: 5-star-rating-clipart-1

Summary: Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina’s screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares—by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold.

But when a woman Kaitlin questions is later found stabbed to death, she fears that she’s drawn a killer out of hiding. It’s Detective John Adler’s fear that the murders have only just begun. Now his job is to keep Kaitlin safe.

As a bond between Kaitlin and Adler builds, the past closes in just as fast—and it’s darker than Kaitlin remembers. Soon, her wish will come true. She’s going to find out exactly what happened to Gina. Someone has been dying to tell her.

I really liked this book if I’m being honest! I didn’t want to put it down and I liked that it involved an old murder case and that a survivor was going to make a podcast about it. I thought that was unique and interesting!

I think my favorite part of the novel was the romance! I don’t wanna mention between who but I feel like it’s kind of obvious at the same time haha! I am a sucker for romance and I enjoyed seeing two characters fall in love! I thought they were a good fit and I liked how they complement each other. I know a lot of people don’t really like romance in there mystery novels but I thought it made the story much more enjoyable for me! I love romance and I love reading about it so I liked that aspect of this book.

That felt like a ramble but whatever…

I thought the writing was really good as well! I think the author told a really good story and wrote about interesting characters, and the plot was also super engaging as well. The mystery left me on the edge of my seat and I liked that I couldn’t tell who the killer was at all! Mary really made me second-guess myself and who I thought the killer was. I appreciated that while I kept guessing, and while I kept assuming that I knew who the killer was, the ending and who it really was really shocked me! It’s always so much more enjoyable when you’re reading a mystery novel and think you have it figured out and it turns out you’re totally wrong!

Thank you Mary for making me second-guess myself every step of the way!

I thought that Kaitlin was a really great character, and I like seeing her build her podcast after what she went through when she was younger. I thought that was such a unique aspect of this book as I mentioned above. But it was nice to see how the podcast turned out at the end, and to see how everything turned out at the end. Overall I thought this was a unique angle and I really enjoy Kaitlin as a character and I thought it was interesting seeing her interact with other characters in the novel because they were so different as well. Did any of that make sense at all?

I am so sorry if it didn’t.

Also can I just say that I fell in love with John in this novel! He was probably my favorite character besides Kaitlin! I liked reading from his perspective and I thought his dialogue added so much to this novel. You can’t help but just adore him throughout this entire story.

I really want to check out her future novels and see what she does in the future. She is definitely someone I want to watch and want to keep up-to-date with.

That actually sounded kind of weird… but you know what I mean right?

If you’re a fan of mystery novels I highly recommend checking out this novel! If you’re unsure about checking out this book because of the romance, don’t worry about it, the romance is not a super huge part of this book.

have you read this novel before? What were your thoughts on it!

Lost in Bliss Release Day Launch

Laura Niles walked out the door and never looked back. As she left Washington, DC, her career was in ruins and her love life decimated. Her desperate flight eventually led her to Bliss, Colorado, where she managed to find a new home and a little peace. That will have to be enough because Laura cannot imagine finding happiness without the men she left behind.

For five years, Rafe Kincaid and Cameron Briggs have searched for the only woman they ever loved. When she disappeared, everything became crystal clear. For one night, everything had been perfect and instead of embracing what they had found, they let it all slip away. They had let worries about their FBI careers and what others might think destroy the most precious gift they had ever been given. Now they have finally tracked her down, and they want answers.

Laura is shocked when her former loves show up in her new home. When the full force of the FBI arrives with them, Laura knows that the quirky little town is in for a rough ride. The killer that ruined her life has been watching and waiting for the opportunity to strike again. For Rafe, Cam, and Laura it’s time for second chances — to stop a monster, and to reclaim everything they lost.

Rafe didn’t miss the way Laura’s body went still, her muscles stiffening where a moment before she’d been laughing with her friends. She changed the second she became aware of them. It wasn’t the greeting he would prefer. Back when they were friends, when she would see him coming, her whole body would go soft and a welcoming smile would transform her face from something professional to an intimate visage, one only meant for someone close to her. He’d taken great pride in the fact that he’d only ever seen that look on her face for one other person.

“Hello, bella.”

She frowned at him. Even with her lips turned down, she was stunning. She looked only slightly out of place in her yellow heels. The rest of her outfit was charmingly Western. She had on a full cotton skirt, a yellow tank top, and a light denim jacket. It wasn’t far off from what many of the other women were wearing, yet Laura made it seem elegant. Everything she did had an air of grace to it, even when she was bitching at him.

“I thought I asked you to stop calling me that.”

He wasn’t going to let her push him. He gave her what he hoped was an easy smile. “And I asked you to stop calling me asshole. I doubt you’ve done that. Dance with me.”

Her eyes widened, a look of horror crossing her face. “No.”

“Come on, baby. Don’t say no.” Cam crowded her, but she held her ground. Those heels were planted firmly in the grass beneath her. “I can’t dance with you until you dance with him. I lost the coin flip.”

“Oh, that’s romantic.” Her hands found her hips, and those gorgeously full lips pursed. “Every woman in the world wants to be won by the flip of a coin.”

“We didn’t have time to play cards,” Rafe admitted. He was well aware that people were listening in. Oh, they were pretending to be doing other things, but they leaned over and then talked behind their hands. The citizens of Bliss seemed to be enjoying the drama. Damn, he couldn’t get used to it. In DC, no one paid a bit of attention to what was going on around them. He tried to ignore it. “We weren’t sure how else to handle it, bella. You have to teach us.”

Her lips rose in a sarcastic grin. “See, that’s easy. Let me teach you how to handle a situation like this. You both turn around and walk out the way you came in. You get in your car and drive to Alamosa and get on a plane back to DC.”

Cam sighed. “That’s not going to happen.”

Cam ran a hand up her arm, and Rafe was satisfied with the way she shivered. She still responded to Cam. Would she respond to him? He reached out and took her hand, studying it. Her hand was small in his, her skin fair against his olive tone. Her nails weren’t as long as she used to keep them, but they were still manicured and painted a pretty pink. “Come on and dance with me. We came all this way. We’ve looked for so long. Can’t you spare a moment of your time? I promise to behave.”

He wouldn’t behave. He had every intention of reminding her of the chemistry they’d had, but he wasn’t going to announce it.

“Fine.” She pushed off of the picnic table she’d been leaning against. “One dance and that’s all.”

“With both of us,” Cam added quickly, pushing the advantage. “It’s only fair. Otherwise, we’ll both dance with you here and now.”

There it was. Rafe’s heart soared. Her eyes had flared momentarily, and it wasn’t with disgust. When they had checked into the odd motel at the edge of town, they had decided it would be best to come at her together. She’d been turned on by sex with both of them. They needed to remind her of what they had to offer.

Weekly Reads TBR & Wrap Up

Hello everyoneeeeee! So sorry I’ve been gone again but homework and such have been keeping me busy plus work! I didn’t finish anything this weekend because I was kinda slumpy…not because I didn’t want to read anything but because I had so many things I want to read and start that I kept starting something and not finishing it.

I’m in the middle of like five books so I’m kinda kicking myself. I think this week my goal will be to buckle down and get those things read that I started and haven’t finished yet.

So here’s what I read last week!

I mentioned them in my last post but here they are:

I really enjoyed all of these books so I’m happy to say I got through them!

Here are the tons of books I am reading at once! It’s a lot!

and a few of these I am only a few chapters in…oops! I am almost done with The Last Magician so I hope to get most of these done this week! I think my priority will be The Woman in the Window and Sleeping Giants since those are library books I checked out so I want to read them before they are due!

And those are the books that I want to read the rest of the week….if by Friday I got most of those done then I will be able to choose others to read during the weekend! Here are some that I options that I have!

We’ll see how far I get ha!

What are you planning on reading this week??
