Make Me Lose Cover Reveal

Today we have the gorgeous cover for Ember Leigh’s MAKE ME LOSE! Check it out and be sure to pre-order your copy today!

Title: Make Me Lose

Author: Ember Leigh

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Blitz: July 23rd

About Make Me Lose:

Grayson Daly and I aren’t just rivals. We’re enemies.

Born minutes apart on the same day in the same hospital, our parents thought this meant we were somehow destined to be together. We knew were we just destined to beat each other.

Competition boiled over until junior year, when the cold war turned into an unexpected peace offering. Maybe my hormones allowed me to notice his broad shoulders, stormy gray-blue eyes, and soccer star’s chiseled frame. But after I fell for him…he stomped all over my heart.

Ten years later, I’m at the top of the realty game in Bayshore and Grayson is just a distant memory. Until he shows up from NYC, his ego bigger than a skyscraper, and asks me to sell the house he recently inherited.

It’s easy to say no. Even though I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to dangle from in strong arm battles.

But I forgot that Gray doesn’t take no for an answer. And that he isn’t content unless he’s defeating me.

He butts into my evenings on the boat. Ropes me into water skiing battles. Even shows up at the bar and creates a scene when I’m scouting a date to the upcoming Bicentennial Ball.

It’s almost like he’s gunning to win me.

But if he wins, that means I lose.

And I’m not ready to cede victory just yet.

“You can drop me off here.”

“Hazel, I’m seeing this through.” I step up to her door, hoisting her up on my back one last time. “You know I can’t see our friends again and tell them I didn’t drop you off inside your house after your water-skiing injury.”

She grumbles but fishes a key out of her purse. I bend so she can reach the lock. The door swings open, revealing a spacious, two-story great room. Dark wood floors are intermittently covered with slate gray rugs and low, comfy-looking couches. A staircase curves up to the second floor. Everything is as immaculate as a showroom, yet somehow distinctly lived in.

“Nice.” I head to the couch and come to my knees so she can slide off. Once I’m gazing back into those mossy green eyes, I can barely remember what I’m supposed to be doing here.

“What?” she asks.

“Your house. It’s exactly what I would expect.”

Hazel seems to have softened a little. Her lips curl up at the edges. “Thanks, I think.”

I push my palm over the edge of her couch, dangerously close to her knee. She crosses her ankles as she settles back into the cushions. My fingertips brush her skin, and I meet her gaze again.

And damn, if the way she’s looking at me right now isn’t making every inch of my body come to attention. Electricity snaps between us; the air grows taut. I trail my fingers over her kneecap, then trace that sensitive hollow behind. Her breath hitches.

So the unshakeable Hazel can be shaken by Gray, even ten years later.

“What are you trying to do?” she asks, a lazy tone to her voice. Like she’s caught somewhere between a dream and distraction.

My heart hammers as my gaze drifts up the sun-kissed expanse of her thigh. Fingertips sizzling from the contact, I trace a slow, invisible pattern over her knee.

I want to be honest with her. I’m trying to fucking kiss her. To reduce this tension in my chest by a fraction. To see if she’ll let me spend the rest of the evening at her side, getting lost in the past as much as the present.

“You know what I’m trying to do,” I say, enjoying the goosepimples blossoming beneath my touch. She’s never been good at fully convincing me she doesn’t like me. Hazel talks a good game, but I know her weaknesses. The area behind her kneecap might as well be an earlobe. I swipe my middle finger over that dip again, watching as her nostrils flare.

“Taking advantage of the woman you mortally wounded out on the lake?” She lifts a brow, but her gaze is on my hand.

I scoff and move my hand away from her. My skin protests the decision. And apparently she does, too. She moves her knee closer to me. My gaze snags on that scrap of fabric covering her pussy—that sweet heat I’d been lucky enough to know once upon a time.

The ball’s in my court right now. I don’t know what to do with so much power. I wonder if she realizes that she lost. The evidence is her prickled skin. Her flushed chest. Her green eyes boring a hole through me.

“There’s nothing wrong with being nice to my new realtor,” I say. It’s a struggle to hide the evil grin that wants to overtake my face, but I manage. I push away from the couch after summoning every last ounce of willpower. “You good here? Or do you need more help tending your loser wounds?”

And then Hazel cocks her head at me, eyes shrinking to slits.

But I see the things she’s trying to hide the most.

Like the start of a smile on those pretty lips.

“What time do you get off work?”

I glanced at my preoccupied colleagues in the crowded kitchen behind me and then back at him. “I should be done by eleven. Why?”

“There’s a diner down the street. I want you to meet me there.”

My face puckered like he’d squirted lemon juice at me. “What?”

“It’s called Rudy’s,” he said. “I’ll be the guy in the corner booth who looks pleased you’re on time.”

I opened my mouth to speak, but he’d already excused himself without waiting for my response. Dumbstruck, I stared after him, watching his long black coat swing behind him as he wove his way through the busy kitchen and saw himself out.

What the heck was that about?

It sure wasn’t a date because you ask people on a date. You don’t order them.

I mean, that was super high on the list of things you don’t do, right? Up near the top next to you don’t meet weird men you don’t know in the middle of the night. I didn’t even know his name, for crying out loud!

But by the time I glanced at the clock, the decision was made.

I was going, and I wouldn’t be late.

“Why offer me the job, Theo?” Jo’s voice was quiet. “There are a million writers out there who could write what you want. This has messy written all over it.”

He paused.

“I owe you,” he finally said, tapping a finger on the desk. “Though of course, if you weren’t qualified, this wouldn’t even be an issue.”

“You owe me?” Jo heard her voice echo off the high ceiling and realized she was shouting but didn’t care. “Fuck that noise, Theo. You thought you’d come throw a job at your fancy new company at your hard-up ex and all would be forgiven? I don’t need your charity. I don’t need you.”

That was it—she was done. Her fury at his actions overrode the very real disappointment that the job wouldn’t work as she stormed toward the door.

When Theo grabbed her arm, she slapped at it with angry hands. “Stop manhandling me!”

“Then stop acting like an ass and listen.” Hauling her “around so that her ass was pressed against the desk, he leaned in, a hand on either side of her hips, forcing her to rear back.

She could smell him, some kind of pricey cologne that made her throat go dry. She could feel the heat of his body all along the line of her own, and damn it, that ache between her thighs decided that it would be a fine time to wake up.

It was Theo. It had always been him.

“The reason I offered you the damn job, and the reason that you’re going to take it, is because we have unfinished business.” He leaned in, and she felt his warm breath mist over her lips. “I didn’t leave because of you, or us, and you damn well know that. And there’s still something here. You can’t deny that.”

Opening eyes that she didn’t realize she’d squeezed closed, Jo looked up at Theo, saw the glint of truth in his eyes.

Her heart felt as though he’d placed it in his fist and squeezed.

“You may not have left because of us, but you still left.” She did her best to keep her voice level. “You really expect us to just pick up where we left off? Unbelievable.”

She placed her hands on his chest, intending to push him away, but the feel of his body beneath her palms made her hesitate. Like a shark sensing her weakness, he closed the ribbon of space between their bodies, pressing himself against her.

“Tell me you don’t want me to touch you.” He touched his lips to the thin skin behind her ear, and she couldn’t hold back the shudder. When her fingers dug into his chest, he slid those lips down her neck and over, measuring the beats of her heart in the hollow of her throat.

Damn it. Damn herself. She’d gone for so, so long without feeling this heat, and now that she’d had a taste, she wanted another hit, and another after that. Would it really be so bad to just let herself go, one more time?”

Pre-Order Your Copy Today!

Exclusive Excerpt:

My teeth are chattering by the time I make it to the rear of the building. Running outside without my coat in the middle of February isn’t one of my best ideas, but the truth is, I’m so numb, I can barely feel anything.

Mikah’s sitting on the edge of a massive concrete flower bed. It probably looked happy and colorful during the summer, but right now, the soil is desiccated and covered with a blanket of dirty old snow.

The gloomy, ominous clouds hang low above our heads, threatening yet another blizzard. This winter has been one of the longest I’ve ever seen, one of the darkest too, and I catch myself thinking that I desperately want it to end. Even if it wipes out all the good memories. I just want to stop feeling broken.

Mikah’s turned with his back to me, cigarette smoke floating around him like a halo.

The snow crunches under the weight of my suede shoes as I walk quietly over to the flower bed, my fingers clutched in front of me, my heart rate kicking up. There are thousands of words in my head, yet none of them seem to be appropriate.

“Are you just gonna stand there?” Mikah rasps out after a while without looking at me. He brushes the traces of tears from his cheeks with the back of his hand, tosses the last of his cigarette on the ground, and draws another one from the pack that’s sitting next to him on the cement block.

“Can I have one?” I ask, blurting out the first thing that comes to mind.

“Since when do you smoke?” He chuckles, shifting to face me. His green eyes, still glistening from his tears, search mine.

“Since now.” I shrug, shuffling my feet. My toes are completely frozen and my body has reached a point where moving only makes it more painful, but at least if someone decides to shoot at us, there’s plenty of room to run. There are no walls and no missing exit signs.

Mikah rises and closes the space between us in three strides. “Here.” He takes off his suit jacket, puts it over my shoulders, and gives me his cigarette. His gaze catches mine and we stand motionless for a few moments staring at each other, probably wondering whether the things we’re each feeling right now are any different. When two people are sad over the same person’s death, there’s a strange type of connection, frightening and nerve-racking. It’s like we have this invisible bond and we understand each other without the need to speak.

I’ve never smoked in my life and I have no idea how to hold a cigarette, so I grab it across the middle with my thumb and index finger, wondering which end goes into my mouth. Although I just saw Mikah smoking, my brain has completely lost it.

“The other way,” he says, stepping back to get another for himself.

“Okay,” I mumble under my breath. I stick it between my lips but immediately remove it when the unpleasant taste of tobacco on my tongue causes my stomach to churn. My injured palm stings with the movement, but I try not to think about the pain.

“You dated a dude who was in a fucking rock band and he didn’t teach you how to smoke, Church Girl?” Mikah rolls his eyes and flicks his lighter in front of my face.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“She’s it for me, Dad,” I say. My dad blinks, his eyes widening and then a smile slowly spreads on his face, but it won’t last long. “She has something ugly in her past, she’s hiding it from me,” I admit.

My dad’s smile falters, then his lips press close together. He takes a step toward me, his hand lifting and grabbing hold of my shoulder with a squeeze. “You think your mama didn’t come from somethin’ real ugly?” he asks.

I gulp, nodding my head as I think about Rylan’s drug addict father, who so happens to be my mama’s brother.

“You ain’t gonna fix her, not ever. Don’t try. But you know what you can do? You can love her. You can show her that her past doesn’t define her future, that she can live a good clean life at your side. Just love her, even when it’s hard, even when shit gets really fuckin’ ugly, because it will,” he says, his voice is like steel, his body held tight like granite.

This man has experience. He knows what I’m getting ready to involve myself in and he’s not warning me to run.

“Love her,” I repeat.

I do, fucking hell I’m falling in love with her, every second of every day I fall a bit farther. I didn’t think it was possible, didn’t think that I would ever find someone, but there is something different about her. Something intriguing, sexy and wonderful.

“Love her,” he repeats back. “Don’t give up, even when she pushes you away, and she will. Call me, I’m here for advice if you ever need it, son.”

Blurb:
“There’s a lot more to me than what I’ve let on in the public eye.”
—Georg Kolochev, VEGAS CRUSH

No, I don’t drink vodka straight from the bottle. I don’t pour it over my breakfast cereal either. I am not in need of an intervention…unless it involves me and a certain blonde bombshell alone in a room with a locking door.

I’ve done my fair share of partying, I’ll admit. And yes. I’ve built up something of a reputation with the ladies when not on the ice. That’s on me for being careless with my posts on social. And I do know what’s most important in my life.

Two things.

Hockey and Pamela Jenson. My favorite physical therapist needs me so much more than she knows.

Because I am the guy delivering her SIN SHOT. Yeah, you heard me, I’m her first.

Sinning with Pam has never felt so good…

*SIN SHOT is book two in the VEGAS CRUSH hockey series. Standalone, sports romance.

Excerpt:
I bring up Georg’s number and before I can talk myself out of it, I press the green call button.

“Hello, Pamela,” he answers on the second ring in that sexy Russian-accented voice of his.

“Hi…I wanted to call and check in after the game. You played super hard, and I thought I’d ask if you wanted to do some therapeutic stretching tomorrow.”

His lengthy pause reminds me why I was an impulsive idiot for calling him.

“You called me at midnight to ask me if I want to do some therapeutic stretching tomorrow?” I can hear the amusement in his tone.

“Well, I…” I’m at a loss for words. A rarity, I know. He chuckles softly into my ear.

“I’m so sorry. God, I didn’t realize how late it was. I’ll catch you at the arena, whenever you want to stop in.”

I hear music in the background. Georg says something but it’s muffled. I realize he must be out partying. Maybe Kacey King is out with him.

“I’ll let you go,” I say, feeling stupid. “I’m sorry to bother you.”

“No, no.” His voice is insistent. “It’s good hearing your voice.”

It is? “Yeah, you too,” I answer after a second. I feel so pathetically stupid. Why on earth did I call him?

“I’ll come see you sometime tomorrow. We don’t practice, so it will probably be after lunch. Will you be there?”

“Yes, I’ll be working tomorrow,” I answer quickly, my heartbeat speeding up at the thought of seeing him so soon.

“Good. Good. Then I guess I should take you up on your offer for some therapeutic stretching, Pamela.”

Oh—my—God. He sees right through me. I realize I need to get off the phone before I say or offer him anything worse. And it will happen…because I turn utterly stupid when I’m around him.

“Night-night, Georg.”

I hope I sound like my confident self, but I can’t tell anymore with him. Georg affects me differently than all other guys before him.

There’s a long pause. So long that I almost think he’s hung up. But then he murmurs, “I love hearing my name on your lips.”

“I…” At a loss, I have no idea what to say to that comment. He has to be drunk, right?

“Good night, Pamela.”

And then he hangs up.

About the Author:
Brit DeMille is Raine’s alter-ego in case you didn’t know.

And she is having an absolute blast writing books that are a little bit different from what Raine usually writes. Brit loves stories about sexy billionaires [millionaires make the cut too] who fall in instalove with young women who may or may not be virgins, and then go on to make adorable babies together. In addition to the billionaires, hot hockey players are at the top of her list of favorite heroes, along with royals and ex-military bodyguards.

The most important thing to Brit when she writes a story is a happily ever after. But during the actual writing of the story, the most important thing to Brit is a cup of hot tea with a splash of milk, and a stash of cherry Jolly Ranchers. A dog or two will likely be in between Brit and the chair at any given moment, which is very handy, because they are the ones who approve everything she writes.
